Why did you join EWB?
I joined because I wanted to be able to use my skills to have a tangible impact on the lives of others. I had volunteered and gone on service trips in the past and found that I really enjoyed them, and therefore I felt that EWB would be a great way to continue that work.
Why did you stay?
EWB is all about community, both when it comes to the work that we do and when it comes to each other. We must care deeply about the communities we are partnered with if we are to properly serve them, and we must also be a team ourselves so that we can work to the best of our abilities. EWB is full of people that are passionate about what they do and take an active interest in the work and lives of others, and that is main reason I stayed.
How has EWB helped you?
EWB has helped me in showing me that there is a wide plethora of ways in which engineers can work to improve the lives of others and that there is always more that one can do if you are passionate about something. The project meetings are always a great break in the monotony of going to class and doing work, and it really drives home the feeling that everyone here is part of one large community.
