Why did you join EWB?

Engineers Without Borders is an opportunity for me to apply the engineering mindset and techniques to real life situations. Coming into college, I already knew that I wanted to join Engineers Without Borders because of these real-life applications as well as the like-minded people that I can meet. However, after joining, I quickly realized that this organization has provided me with a community and a second family.

Why did you stay?

I think first and foremost is the cause itself. The idea that I can contribute my efforts to bring clean and reliable water to a community that is not reaching its minimum amount of water is really motivating. In the United States, water is at our disposable. We can use as much of it to take showers, drink, brush our teeth, and even waste. The people of Tloma Awak do not have this luxury, and I feel it is important to provide them with the resources they need. Ultimately, it has been the people who have solidified my decision to stay. Much of the student leaders have been approachable and genuine, and their guidance and warm-heartedness has made me feel like I am part of a family.

How has EWB helped you?

It has opened my eyes up to the different areas that I can contribute my efforts to.
